  4. losses by radiation) and covered with
  5. insulating material (to reduce losses by
  6. convection and conduction). In a typical
  7. experiment, such as to measure the heat
  8. capacity of a piece of metal, the calorimeter
  9. is filled with water, whose temperature rise
  10. is measured using a thermometer when a known
  11. mass of the heated metal is immersed in it.
  12. Chemists use a bomb calorimeter to measure
  13. the heat produced by burning a fuel
  14. completely in oxygen.
